A. K. D. Chathuranga Silva is a Chartered Architect and Chartered Landscape Architect from Sri Lanka with nearly 20 years of experience in delivering ecologically sensitive and culturally grounded design solutions. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Science in Landscape Design from the University of Moratuwa, and is a corporate member of both the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Landscape Architects (SLILA).
Currently, Silva serves as the Honorary Secretary (2024/2025) of SLILA, contributing to institutional development, examinations, and academic policy-making. Her past leadership roles include Chairperson of the Board of Landscape Architectural Education (2022/2023), Assistant Treasurer, and Chairperson of the Media, Publicity, and Awareness Committee. As an examiner and viva panelist for the SLILA Chartered Examination, she plays a vital role in maintaining professional standards and mentoring future practitioners.
Alongside professional practice, Silva is active in academia, serving as an external tutor at the University of Moratuwa (Architecture – Landscape Division) and the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (Faculty of Architecture). Her teaching emphasizes sustainability, cultural identity, and design ethics, supported by her extensive field experience.
Her career spans diverse projects in residential, commercial, hospitality, institutional, and environmental design. She began her career at Archiform Design Consultancy and Anusha Rajapakse Associates, later joining Rooparoo Associates, where she strengthened her multidisciplinary expertise. As an independent consultant, she continues to lead projects that integrate architecture and landscape, prioritizing local materials, climate adaptation, and ecological preservation.
Beyond practice and education, Silva is engaged in heritage conservation and community initiatives, including her involvement with the Negombo Rua Grande Heritage Club, which supports the preservation of coastal Sri Lanka’s architectural identity.
She is also a writer and communicator, publishing articles on architectural history, landscape theory, and design culture. Through her writing, she fosters greater public understanding of the built environment and advocates for heritage-conscious development in the Global South.
Known for her leadership, collaborative approach, and ability to bridge independent initiative with teamwork, Silva excels in conceptual design, stakeholder communication, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Her philosophy goes beyond technical solutions, seeking instead to create meaningful, sustainable spaces that support communities, ecologies, and cultural continuity.
Through her work as a practitioner, educator, and mentor, Chathuranga Silva continues to shape the future of landscape architecture and architecture in Sri Lanka, while aspiring to expand her influence globally through collaborations that promote sustainability, education, and design excellence.
