Sophia Wang is an accomplished landscape architect, educator, and practitioner with more than 20 years of experience across the United States, Taiwan, mainland China, and Asia. Her diverse professional practice spans large-scale ecological farms, theme parks, regional parks, urban centers, tourist attractions, hotels, streetscapes, and private gardens, integrating both design and ecological sustainability.
She earned her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Garden Design from Chinese Culture University (1992), a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Southern California (1997), and an EMBA from Peking University (2009). She is also a registered landscape architect in the United States, bringing an international perspective to her academic and professional work.
Currently an Associate Professor at Chinese Culture University’s Department of Landscape Architecture, Wang also engages in academic exchanges with universities such as South China University of Technology, bridging technical expertise and cross-border dialogue in landscape education.
Her professional career includes serving as Deputy Director of Landscape Design at AECOM China (formerly EDAW), where she managed projects in Suzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and other cities. In this role, she was responsible for project quality control, business development, and leading multidisciplinary landscape teams across Greater China.
Wang also directed the Yi O Farm Project in Hong Kong’s Lantau Island, where she integrated edible landscapes and organic farming into sustainable farm operations. This project highlighted her expertise in rural reinvention, agricultural environmental conservation, and ecological protection—areas that continue to define her design philosophy.
Earlier in her career, she gained experience working in the United States with EDAW California, in Taiwan with Engineering Consulting Company, and in Hong Kong with the Urban Renewal Authority, providing her with a strong understanding of both public- and private-sector approaches to landscape planning and management.
Throughout her career, Wang has combined her roles as designer, farmer, and professor, reflecting her holistic approach to landscape architecture. She emphasizes the integration of ecological engineering, environmental protection, and sustainable design in every project, while also nurturing the next generation of landscape architects through teaching and mentorship.
