Xiong Li
Professor Xiong Li is a leading landscape architect, educator, and scholar in China, currently serving as Vice President of Beijing Forestry University (BFU) and doctoral supervisor. With over three decades of dedication to teaching, research, and practice, he has played a pivotal role in advancing landscape architecture education and practice nationally and internationally.
He holds key positions on numerous national professional committees, including the Landscape Architecture and Urban Design Committees of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, and the National Steering Committee for Professional Degrees in Landscape Architecture, where he is Vice Chairman. He is also Vice President of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture (CHSLA) and chairs its Education Committee, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Parks, and President of the Landscape Architecture Branch of the Chinese Society of Forestry.
At BFU, Professor Li has been devoted to education for 36 years, serving as Dean of the School of Landscape Architecture before his current role as Vice President. Under his leadership, BFU’s program rose to national prominence, ranked No. 1 in China (2012) and awarded A+ in 2017 and 2021 in national subject evaluations. His mentorship has guided students to 67 awards in major design competitions, including four First Prizes in the prestigious IFLA International Student Design Competition.
Professor Li’s contributions to education have been recognized with honors such as the National Teaching Achievement Award (Second Prize), the Beijing Teaching Excellence Award, and the Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award.
As a scholar and practitioner, Professor Li has made lasting contributions to urban green space planning, rural landscape planning, and landscape design theory, blending research with applied practice. He has authored seven monographs and over 200 academic papers, while also leading more than 160 major design projects. His projects have received accolades including the BALI National Landscape Awards, IFLA Asia-Pacific Awards, and the LI Awards from RIBA, alongside over 30 national prizes such as the National Engineering Survey and Design Award (First Prize) and CHSLA’s Outstanding Planning and Design Award (First Prize).
Professor Li’s work has also earned him numerous professional honors, including the National Innovation Award, the IFLA Asia-Pacific LA Luminary Award, the Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award (First Prize), and the Science and Technology Progress Awards from CHSLA, the Ministry of Education, and the Liang Xi Award.
Through his leadership, academic research, and internationally recognized design projects, Professor Xiong Li has made profound contributions to the advancement and global visibility of Chinese landscape architecture.
